Best Entrepreneurship Lesson Plans on the Internet
**Updated for 2019**
If you’ve been to this website before, you know by now that we are basically a living, breathing entrepreneurship lesson plans resource, interested in helping educators inspire their students on whole new levels. One of the most popular subject areas that we focus on here at Apex Striving is encouraging teachers to try their hand at teaching students a bit about entrepreneurship. We are not just cheer-leading the need to teach entrepreneurship just because we are passionate about the field. We encourage it, because we truly believe that entrepreneurship is developmentally beneficial for students to learn early. We also know it is a skill set and way of thinking that will empower a young individual to be prepared for integrating into a global economy that is anything but certain.
Don’t take my word for it. According to the United States Department of Labor (dol.gov) and the Small Business Administration (sba.gov), students who participate in entrepreneurship programs demonstrate increased initiative, self-confidence, improved academic performance, etc.…the list goes on, but you can read more here.
What’s Out There?
With that being said, I searched the internet recently to see what exists out there in terms of entrepreneurship lesson plans, entrepreneurship education, and entrepreneurship teaching activities. What I came up with, was anything but impressive. Most of what I saw was not what I thought educators truly interested in finding quality entrepreneurship resources would want to see. Unfortunately, internet search engines don’t always get things right with their “keyword algorithms” to ensure you are getting exactly what you are looking for. As such, I decided to create a classroom entrepreneurship resource list to make your life easier. On this list I will include some of the best entrepreneurship lesson plans I could find on the web, both free and paid versions.
The Best of the Best
Just so you are aware, I offer entrepreneurship resources directly from this site, and since I have done some of the leg work for you in terms of research efforts, I thought it would only be fair if I added some of those entrepreneurship education resources to the list. So, please don’t be surprised if you see some of our stuff listed below. I am convinced after all, that we do offer some of the finest entrepreneurship lesson plans and entrepreneurship teaching activities available out there. Let’s begin shall we?
Elementary School Entrepreneurship Lesson Plans:
- Economics – Entrepreneurship in Grades 3 -5 via Sweet Integrations (Paid)
- From the research I did, this entrepreneurship resource looks pretty solid. It is one of the most popular on Teachers Pay Teachers website, the preview looks pretty impressive, and it has a ton of great reviews. You can’t go wrong with that kind of insight.
- I Can Be an Entrepreneur via EconEd (Free)
- If you are looking for a really dry, and simplistic overview of entrepreneurship, then this one’s for you. It gets the job done, but it’s not very exciting, or very interactive. However, it is FREE…
- Be Your Own Boss via Mint (Free)
- Okay, this one is not a lesson plan per se, but is a pretty cool resource that you can have your students go through (if they have access to a computer and the internet) to get a good perspective on entrepreneurship and starting a business.
- Entrepreneurship Classroom Activities via entre-ed.org (Free)
- This resource seems quite robust, it contains a bunch of kickstarter ideas that you can test out with your students. Each concept is comes as a downloadable pdf. If you can get pass the deluge of options, there is sure to be some valuable entrepreneurial insights you can gleam for your kids.
- Introducing Entrepreneurs via BizKids (Free)
- This resource gives kids a great introduction to the various aspects of entrepreneurship. It uses videos and downloadable pdfs to help teach your students the fundamentals of business. Also free, it’s simple, and it is quite pleasing to the eye. You can’t go wrong with this resource when teaching your elementary students about entrepreneurship
Middle School Entrepreneurship Lesson Plans:
- Entrepreneurship Classroom Resources by Federal Reserve of Kansas City (Free)
- A set of very good teaching resources and entrepreneurship classroom activities that span across K12, but with most of them landing in the 6-8 grades.
- Teaching The Basics of Entrepreneurship via Jessie Lee’s. (Paid)
- Another top entrepreneurship seller (is now the top-rated entrepreneurship lesson plans on the TPT platform) on the Teachers Pay Teachers website within the middle school grades, with 4 star reviews.
- General Lesson Plans 6-8 via TheseKidsMeanBusiness (Free)
- A decent set of very general lesson plans; however, they are free and they provide you with the basics of entrepreneurship. If don’t care for looks, functionality, and just need something, anything related to entrepreneurship, then this will do.
- Entrepreneurial Learning 6 – 8 via Venture Lab (Free)
- Venture Lab is a non-profit out of Texas that has some really great resources when it comes to entrepreneurship. Their site is definitely worth taking a look at. At times, the site may run slow, and it even requires a flash player at times, but if you can get past those hiccups, the resources are great.
High School Entrepreneurship Lesson Plans:
- Entrepreneurship Activities via Wharton High School (Free)
- This resource is very well organized. It’s certainly pleasing to the eye, and after reviewing some of the content, I would say that it is quite robust. Aside from my own entrepreneurship education resource, I would say, hands-down, that this is my favorite.
- Entrepreneurship Lesson Plans via Apex Striving (Paid)
- From what I hear, this resource is pretty darn good. (Yes this is our product, Yes we are biased, Yes it is the Best).
- Famous Entrepreneurs Entrepreneurship Activity By Alabama Learning Exchange (Free)
- The Alabama Learning Exchange has some really good resources available for teaching entrepreneurship. This resource in particular stood out, especially for introducing high school kids to notable entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship in general.
- General Entrepreneurship Lesson Plans via These Kids Mean Business (Free)
- TheseKidsMeanBusiness.com certainly covers the whole spectrum of entrepreneurship lesson plans; but I believe their strongest focus is on high school lesson plans. Similar to my other info on their resources, they are quite general, and they don’t incorporate a variety of media or external resources in their lessons to engage the students. This is not to say that it won’t help you teach entrepreneurship, but it may not be the most energetic or inspired experience. Just saying.
- Entrepreneurship: Create a Business Project via Nina Southern (Paid)
- These entrepreneurship classroom activities by Nina Southern. These are pretty highly rated on Teachers Pay Teachers, which is why I had to add them to this list. Only the best! I scoured through a few pages on their site, and this one in particular stood out due to all the positive reviews that it received.
- Entrepreneurship Whole Semester Course via Tech Twins (Paid)
- Last on the list is an extremely robust entrepreneurship teaching resource. It covers almost every faucet of entrepreneurship and provides you with a whole semester’s worth of lessons to get the job done. The price tag is a bit on the high-end, but it could be well worth the investment.
And that’s all she wrote. I hope this list makes your search for a high quality, and effective entrepreneurship teaching resource much easier. Most importantly, I hope this list gives you the information you need to start teaching your students entrepreneurship.
If you feel this list has left out any resources that should be on our list of best entrepreneurship lesson plans, let me know…I’d love to hear from you so I can add it.
Cheers,
Nate Lee
